On a tight budget and looking for a cheap microphone? Photographer Curtis Judd examines a shotgun microphone called the Takstar SGC-598 in this video. The microphone is available at a very affordable price.
Although it does have some hiss, which can be edited out later, Judd’s experience with the microphone demonstrates that it is a reasonably solid device for a low-end microphone. However, it does have some hiss. This low-cost microphone has several applications, including that of a backup or second microphone. If you’re recording your primary sound into an external recorder and want a backup just in case, but don’t want to spend too much on a good shotgun mic that you won’t use 99% of the time, the Takstar SGC-598 can be an option for you. It’s a good compromise between the two. Be warned, though, that it does have a few issues.
