The Early Access version of Slime Rancher 2 has only been released today, but it has already surpassed the previous record for the studio in terms of daily sales and has piled up almost 1,000 “overwhelmingly favorable” reviews on Steam.
Nick Popovich, CEO of Monomi Park and director of the Slime Rancher series, stated earlier in the year to GamesRadar+ that the sequel “feels just like Slime Rancher, only smoother, more expansive, and richer in details, and with a lot of tweaks and quality of life changes,” and it appears that both new and long-time fans are having a great time with the result.
At the time this article was written, there were 896 reviews on Steam that might be classified as “overwhelmingly positive.” This indicates that the overall sentiment of Steam’s review area is quite favorable. That is an astoundingly high percentage of positive feedback from players for a casual indie game that is just on its first day available through Early Access. Popovich also made the announcement on Twitter (link opens in new tab), which can be seen here, saying Slime Rancher 2 had “literally orders of magnitude” more sales than the studio’s previous greatest sales day.
I went out to Popovich to extend my congratulations to him and Monomi Park on the successful launch of the sequel, and we were informed that everyone at the studio is “completely astounded” by the response they have received. He also let me know that his “pie in the sky” dream for the game’s first day sales was surpassed in only a few hours, which was another revelation he shared with me.
Popovich stated that “the degree of support we’ve gotten from our community and partners is above anything that we could have envisioned.” “We’ve surpassed that in less than six hours, with Overwhelmingly Positive reviews on Steam on top of it all (something we’ve personally treasured about the original for years now). I had in my brain a kind of crazy pipe dream for launch that maybe we might sell 100,000 copies in the first 24 hours.
It has been a joy for us to observe players navigating the prismatic world that we have crafted, and we have especially enjoyed hearing people’s accounts of the responses of their children as they played the game for the first time.
Therefore, if there is anything that I can say, it would be an enormous, Gordo-sized thank you to everyone who has begun their adventures on Rainbow Island and that we can’t wait to show you what we have in store for this world in all of the updates that will follow in the future, we can’t wait to show you what we have in store for this world in all of the updates that will follow in the future.”
Slime Rancher 2 is now available for purchase on PC as well as Xbox Series X/S. Additionally, it may be accessed with Game Pass.
